We all know someone that gives so much of all they have and never asks for anything in return. You’ve seen this person day in and day out giving their time or energy to help someone in need fixing what others might view as ‘not their problem’. Often, they’ll do so without any expectation of thanks or praise. Unfortunately, when the time comes and our person of interest needs a helping hand, too often their generosity goes unreturned.
Now imagine, if you will, that the person is a member of our armed forces. One of our brothers and sisters that take up arms to protect our country from enemies, foreign and domestic. This scene, more than likely, isn’t the mental image you had when thinking about someone in need, but now more than ever our troops and their families have had to rely on outside support sources in times of critical distress or turmoil.
Thankfully, those outside sources have amassed vast networks of backing and, as a result, we have the fine men and women of S.T.E.P. The Support The Enlisted Project assists junior active duty enlisted members and recently discharged enlisted Veterans and their families in Southern California facing financial crisis. The goal is for those individuals and families to achieve long term financial self-sufficiency through counseling, education and grants to alleviate critical near term obligations.
