Researching a traditional storage facility will yield results with several sizes available. Small self-storage units range from 5’x5’ to 5’x10’ and are great for storing boxes, small furniture or the contents of one room. Medium self-storage units range from 5’x15’ to 10’x10’ and are perfect for storing the contents of a one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment. Loading

Place heavy items on the bottom, fragile things should be bubble wrapped or covered with blankets and secured, and everything should be as level as possible (no towering boxes on one side that could fall over during transport). Finally, be sure to utilize the tie down hooks located on the interior side walls of the Big Box. 

 

What if I don’t want to load up the Big Box myself?

Access

Now you’ve got the hard part of loading your storage out of the way. You’ve put in the sweat equity and you’ve bribed your best friends with pizza and drinks to help you get your items safely stored in your unit. But then you realize you packed your dog’s heartworm meds away and you’ve got to get that out ASAP. If you aren’t keeping a portable storage unit on-site, different storage solutions mean you have several options for accessing your stored belongings once they are no longer in your home. If you decided to utilize a standard traditional storage facility, you may have more of a “self-service” approach to accessing. Typically with this option, you would be given a pin number that you would input using a keypad that controls a gate or door to the property. Once on property, you would drive or walk to your unit where you will be able to access your items. Generally speaking, this type of access allows for unlimited trips to or from the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and may or may not be operated with a representative on site.

 

Locations

Typically with portable storage companies, you will find their main warehouse facility is located outside of the city where land costs much less, and if you ever need to access any items that are stored inside, they require you to pay a delivery fee to have the unit returned to you.

Other portable storage companies might have locations within the city, but the units are stored outside in an unpaved lot, exposed to the elements (including pests like vermin and insects).
